LEARNZ is a programme of free virtual field trips, helping students access the inaccessible. Through their website, ākonga can visit inspiring places around Aotearoa, Antarctica and beyond. Find out how it works - Using LEARNZ.
LEARNZ has created an online virtual field trip promoting our very own Hokonui Restoration projects - focussing on technology.
Hokonui Restoration - what’s it about?
The Hokonui Rūnanga exercise kaitiakitanga and rangatiratanga across their takiwā (area). Their award winning environmental restoration programme Hokonui Rūnanga Kaupapa Taiao supports the rūnanga to connect with a range of projects and people, with the aim of building spiritual, cultural, social, and economic growth. Some of their programme’s mahi includes fresh water monitoring and management, pest control, bird and bat monitoring and native seed collection.
Travel to Hokonui in Murihiku Southland to explore how mātauranga Māori, western science and modern technology, including geospatial Apps and data, are informing this important kaupapa.
This online field trip supports a STEAM-based, cross curricular approach to teaching and learning. Participation encourages curiosity, citizen-science and student inquiry. Access curriculum links and resources plus a glossary.
Sign up for this trip to receive supporting communication and resources from the LEARNZ team and connect with field trip experts in our live web conferences.
