Purpose and outcome
The goals of the first workshop were to:
Build trust and collegiality between community stakeholders.
Create a shared sense of the problem, the opportunity, and shared purpose.
Establish clarity and transparency of all activities planned and proposed in region.

The workshop was facilitated by Melissa Jenner of START now, and attended by representatives from the following:
- 4 Murihiku rūnaka
- Local councils
- Southern Institute of Technology
- Various community groups
- Southern District Health Board
- COIN South, Great South, and the Southland Chamber of Commerce
- Government representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary Industries, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry for Pacific Peoples
