We currently have three vacancies:

1 x Community Job Coach - Kaiwhakatere - Pathway Navigator

Anamata Māia (Capability Hub) Service
Location: Invercargill based

Full-time, Fixed Term until end June 2027

Purpose of the Kaiwhakatere role is to: Ensure our whānau (service users) are steering their lives in a right (tika) direction with support to stay afloat on their journey. This involves guiding whānau as they identify life and work direction and coaching them towards the success they desire.

Principal foci of the role are to support our service users through:

  • Tutaki – Building trust and safety: From strong relationships with people and their whanau, grounded in whakapapa and place. Uphold the safety and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, hapū and communities.
  • Wananga ki te Anamata - Explore direction: Work alongside people to clarify purpose and future direction, and co-design a clear, practical pathway plan with agreed next steps.
  • Whakahono - Connect and broker: Open doors to work, training and services, and remove barriers so momentum is maintained.
  • Nahanaha – Organise and record: Follow policies and procedures. Keep accurate, timely notes and reports in the approved system: maintain will organised digital and paper records that are easy to access and review.

At times, you may be asked to carry out duties not listed here, as delegated by Hokonui Rūnanga Health and Social Service leadership.

The Kaiwhakatere play a vital role in ensuring the people of Murihiku have a voice in imagining the futures they desire. They are to provide culturally appropriate support to the participating service users and their whānau, with the aim of empowering them with the support they need to build a pathway to the life and work they desire.

Functional relationships: Functional relationships refer to the key people and organisations that the Kaiwhakatere will work with. This role undertakes tasks as delegated by the Kaiwhakatere (Lead) and as delegated by leadership of the Hokonui Rūnanga Health and Social Service Trust. These assigned activities may be undertaken with other staff members of the Anamata Maia service.

External relationships must also be maintained with:

  • Government agencies.
  • Community groups and partnering organisations such as schools, tertiary institutions, social service agencies and employers.
  • Whānau, hapū and community.

Person Specification: This role is the ‘glue’ for the Anamata Māia service. It requires a good-humoured person who can problem solve and work well with other people and agencies in the interests of enabling whānau.

Success in this role requires a sound understanding of working with people in a guiding and mentoring role.

The Kaiwhakatere needs to:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with service users and their whānau, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be passionate about empowering people to successfully transition in life and work roles.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development.
  • Show ability to manage workflow, working independently and collaboratively as required.
  • Have sound literacy and experience in producing presentations and written reports.
  • Capacity to work in a culturally safe manner with service users and apply Tikanga and understanding of Te Ao Māori in your work.
  • Hold a high level of personal integrity – dependable, honest, confidential, respectful of whānau personal beliefs, values, and goals.
  • Be willing to address challenges in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Minimum of certificate or diploma level qualification in education or social services preferred.

As the Kaiwhakatere you will play a vital role in supporting people to find a pathway to employment, ensuring they have a voice in imagining the future they desire. You will be a part of a service providing support to whānau, ensuring they have a pathway plan and that this plan is implemented.

  • Ability to work in a culturally safe manner with service users.
  • Personal integrity and willingness to address challenges in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Full, clean NZ drivers’ licence.
  • Minimum of certificate or diploma level qualification in education or social services preferred.
  • Ability to mee safety checking/Police Vetting (Children’s Act 2014) requirements.
